Building on the results for particle combustion kinetics obtained in project area A, in project B, non-homogeneous flows and combustion processes are investigated. The main focus lies on the interaction of particles with the flow and combustion at different scales. Fundamental experiments as well as direct numerical simulations are used to address combustion kinetics, small-scale interactions of particles with the gas-phase, and multi-scale interactions all the way to turbulent combustion processes. Based on this, models are developed describing Oxy-Fuel combustion of solid particles in turbulent flames. Both models for gas-phase kinetics, particle-fluid interaction, and turbulent combustion as well as newly developed laser-based experimental techniques will be applied on the system scale in project area C.
