project area A
Physical and Chemical Fundamentals of oxy-fuel Combustion
The goal of project area A is to gain a fundamental understanding of the kinetics of volatile release and char burn-out under oxy-fuel conditions. Measurements are based on a selection of representative coals covering lignites as well as bituminous coals. A synthetic coal will represent a reference case. Catalytic effects of mineral ash components will be examined as a well as high temperature adsorption on the coal surface. Kinetics will be measured under realistic firing conditions under plug flow (drop tube) and well stirred (fluidized bed) conditions. Project Area A provides the kinetic laws to describe the heat sources needed in all numerical projects in Area B and C.
